Catalog Description, Prerequisites and Schedule:

Lecture and demonstration course by the faculty to introduce freshmen to the field of materials science and engineering. Prerequisite: None. 1 hour 1 lecture-discussion hour/week, 6 weeks, begins after Eng 100 ends.

1. Introduction to the Department
2. Biomaterials
3. Ceramics
4. Electronic materials
5. Metals
6. Polymers

Course Objectives:

1. To welcome new students to the department.
2. To introduce the various areas of materials science and engineering and their role in society.

Course Outcomes:

2. an understanding of the breadth of the field and its role in society.
